UESI’s comprehensive marine support services include the provision of barges, vessels, and personnel dedicated to lifting submarine cables and assisting FPL cable splicing crews.

In the event of a cable repair, their team ensures a swift response, loading FPL splicing equipment, and a substantial cable reel (20,000 lbs.) onto an appropriate marine vessel. The repair process involves locating the cable failure, uncovering the cable, and lifting it onto the deck with utmost care to prevent damage. Following the repair efforts by FPL crews, the cable is carefully placed on the seabed and buried. UESI’s responsibilities also encompasses replacing signs that mark cable locations, addressing cable repairs in challenging locations adjacent to marine environments, and transporting bucket trucks on barges to access hard-to-reach areas.

UESI’s expertise extends to cutting through existing seawalls to create access points for cables. The scope of their work covers diverse areas, ranging from wetlands to major inlets. Throughout these projects, they are actively involved in developing work methods, mooring techniques, and environmental protection plans that strictly adhere to the safety standards set by FPL, U.S. Army Corps, Coast Guard, South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), and the Department of Environmental Protection.
