Harborcreek Township, in Erie County PA, along the shore of Lake Erie, is one of the original sixteen townships set up in the early 1800s. Several streams and creeks run through the township to Lake Erie, giving the township its name. The Harborcreek Sewer Authority was formed in 1970 to construct, oversee, and control the public sewer system within the township. It operates twelve sewage pump stations and over 65 miles of collector sewer around the clock, every day of the year.
GPI designed a project to eliminate Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) at the 6 Mile Creek Pump Station, matching the current pump station design capacity of 1,400 gallons per minute to avoid capacity issues of all downstream force mains, gravity sewers, and three pump stations. The SSO issue at this location was addressed by constructing a flow equalization (EQ) storage tank with a 750,000-gallon capacity. Inflow exceeding the pump station capacity is pumped to the EQ tank. After use, the EQ tank is drained back to the 6 Mile Pump Station wet well.
