Situated on Florida’s Treasure Coast in St. Lucie County is the Fort Pierce Inlet. Dotted with beautiful beaches, the Fort Pierce Inlet is a popular destination for recreational activities.
UESI, a wholly owned subsidiary of GPI, orchestrated the construction of a 0.3-acre artificial reef within Fort Pierce Inlet. This innovative project saw the installation of 1,200 tons of carefully positioned limestone boulders resting on top of filter fabric. The project involved sourcing, loading, and transporting the limestone from a county-approved quarry, in addition to procuring geotextile filter fabric. These materials were then conveyed to a designated staging area sanctioned by the county. Following this, the materials were efficiently transferred to a suitable offshore conveyance, such as a barge, for transportation to the specified artificial reef area. UESI played a pivotal role by providing the necessary labor, equipment, and materials essential for constructing the reef.
