Ohio Department of Transportation Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Progressive Design-Build Project

The Brent Spence Bridge carries Interstates 71 and 75 across the Ohio River between Covington, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. Named for Kentucky’s longest-serving congressman, the bridge opened in 1963 and provided a vital freight and commuter corridor accommodating more than 80,000 vehicles daily. Today, it carries more than twice that amount. The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor (BSBC) project will expand the capacity of the existing bridge to improve traffic flow and safety.

The project improves approximately five miles of I-71/I-75 in Kentucky and one mile of I-75 in Ohio, including various complex, multi-level ramp structures. A new companion bridge will also be constructed to carry local and through traffic to the Covington and Cincinnati business districts. The total project cost is estimated at $3.1 Billion and will be delivered utilizing a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) alternative contracting methodology. Although schedules will be modified according to the PDB process, the Fall of 2030 has been targeted for project completion.

GPI provides on-site inspection services, working collaboratively with construction and design teams and painting contractors to ensure maximum quality and safety.
