GPI provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering consulting services for this cooling tower replacement project.
The two base building cooling towers needing replacement were installed in 1989 and each had a single motor and was controlled by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD). The scope of work included demolishing pipes back to the valves, replacing valves, providing new isolation valves, replacing and insulating piping for new connections to the two new cooling towers, providing heat tracing, and a new make-up water line. The project also included the removal of another cooling tower that was no longer in use. To prevent disruption to tenants in the building, work was done during the off hours and over weekends. A challenge of the project was coordination of crane location for getting towers on roof. GPI provided bid comparison and reviewed services and assisted with contractor selection.
