Aspen Heights Partners Muir Woods Student Housing

The Muir Woods Student Housing project was built as a residential complex offering housing options to hundreds of local college students. This development includes 53 cottage-style buildings with 197 apartment units to accommodate up to 830 students. A clubhouse facility, along with amenities such as a pool, grills, and fire pits, offers community spaces for all residents. The recreational trail along the southern border of the property lines runs east-west through the development, providing pedestrian access to John James Audubon Parkway. The SUNY at Buffalo campus is approximately two miles south of the new development, providing easy access to students.

Completed in August 2024, GPI developed the civil/site design for the previously undeveloped site, incorporating green infrastructure principles to manage stormwater. Designs also included site utilities such as a new sanitary sewer pump station and forcemain, the hydraulic analysis and re-routing of existing ditches, and sizing of culverts. We also secured wetland permits from the United States Army Corps of Engineers and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

GPI also designed an extension to the public road along the John James Audubon Parkway to provide entrance to the new development, which required a highway ramp expansion and replacement of a four-way intersection with a roundabout. Traffic studies, break-in access, and traffic mitigation designs were included.

Acting on behalf of the client and coordinating with the Town of Amherst, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning—Sewer Division, and the New York State Department of Transportation, our team provided construction inspection for the roadway extension and roundabout, and performed construction administration services for all work throughout each phase of development.
