DMR Architects Charles and Anna Booker Elementary School

GPI provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services the new, three-story Charles & Anna Booker Elementary School in Plainfield, New Jersey.

The 120,000 sqft school was designed to educate approximately 840 kindergarten to fifth grade students. The school was named after Plainfield natives and activists Charles and Anna Booker – Charles, an Army veteran, and Anna, the first African American teacher in Metuchen, NJ. The school includes 41 classrooms, art, music, instrumental lesson, and science demo rooms, technology lab and computer lab, gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, and a classic playground with a basketball court.

The mechanical work included a heating and air conditioning system, toilet room exhaust systems, and automatic temperature control systems. The project also included new electrical services, electrical distribution systems, regular and emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, telecommunications, and site lighting. A NFPA-compliant sprinkler system was included in the design-build for the project.

This project is currently awaiting LEED Certification.
