Joseph E. Nemmer, PE
Joe Nemmer is the Branch Manager for GPI’s Western New York (WNY) Branch including offices in Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Rochester, and Jamestown. Joe brings over 40 years engineering experience, primarily in bridge design, as well as operational and contract management experience across a broad range of engineering services. Joe has been in this role with GPI since 2012. Some of the more notable projects over his career include the currently developing replacement of the American Falls Bridges (Niagara Falls, NY) and the recent recoating of the Peace Bridge (Buffalo, NY/Fort Erie, Canada), along with many locally administered federal aid bridge and roadway projects.
When not working, Joe enjoys being outside for just about any reason (skiing topping the list), bike riding, dogs, travel, home projects, and of course, family and friends.

What do you like or appreciate most about working at GPI?
When I was first presented with GPI’s 7 Strategic Objectives, I thought it was simply recruiting material that sounded good. Over these past years with GPI, I have time after time seen the 7SOs truly serve as the guide used in countless decisions throughout the company – particularly Employee Satisfaction. The leadership and the culture of GPI truly values our people.
Who or what inspires you?
I find those individuals you meet that are truly good at what they do to be inspiring. People that fit this description are often outside of the spotlight and like it that way, simply enjoying the work or activity itself – the things they create and the goals they achieve being fully rewarding in themselves.
What’s the best piece of advice you’re received?
I just recently heard it said that “Every day is an interview” and thought that was a striking concept. It applies to anyone at any time, reminding us that we need to pay attention to the people around us and the things we do, aspiring to do our best along the way, every day.
