Canpack Group, a global manufacturer of aluminum, steel cans, and glass bottles for the food and beverage industry, is a subsidiary of Pennsylvania-based Giorgi Global Holdings, Inc. The company’s operational headquarters is in Krakow, Poland, and it operates 28 manufacturing sites across Europe, South America, India, the Middle East, and Africa. To enter the North American market, Canpack selected northeastern Pennsylvania and established an aluminum can manufacturing facility along with its North American Center of Excellence in 2020.
Canpack acquired a vacant 1 million-square-foot property on a 102-acre site in Lackawanna County and replaced it with a 908,000-square-foot aluminum can manufacturing facility and operations center. The facility features a customer experience center showcasing its R&D and lithographic capabilities, along with offices, a cafeteria, a production hall, chemical storage, a recycling area, and a pallet storage section. The manufacturing side of the building operates four production lines.
GPI supplied engineering design services for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection. The mechanical systems include rooftop units, exhaust fans, air circulation fans, and office conditioning for worker comfort. Electrical systems cover lighting, power, fire alarm, telecommunication, and protection systems, along with power distribution for ventilation, freeze protection, and life-safety systems. The fire protection setup includes a dedicated fire pump house and water storage for sprinkler coverage throughout the facility.
